Betsy Gentry

Betsy Gentry
Controller and HR Manager

Betsy Gentry has been with SSYH for ten years. She serves as both the company's controller and human resources manager. She is responsible for and manages the daily office operations including finance and human resources. Betsy received her BS in Business and Computer Science from Florida Southern College in Lakeland.

Betsy enjoys spending time with her husband William, 15-year-old daughter Elizabeth and one-year-old puppy Jack. Scrapbooking is her passion, and she gets together with a group once a month and for periodic weekend getaways to work on scrapbooks documenting family events and milestones.

"Scrapbooking provides me quality time with my daughter and friends. It is a great creative outlet and my family loves to look back through the albums and reminisce," says Betsy. "We also have a lot of fun and have had some pretty crazy girls weekends!"

She also enjoys fishing with her husband on the flats in Titusville. Much to her husband's chagrin, Betsy holds the record for the largest fish - a 46-inch redfish - caught aboard the family's fishing boat.

"What can I say? It was a big fish and tons of fun to catch! And yes, I have pictures to prove it that have been proudly added to the family fishing album. The great thing about fishing is that there is always a bigger fish out there to catch!"

 WHAT'S NEW AT SSYH?

 

SSYH celebrated the holidays with a potluck dinner after work on Friday, December 19. Employees from the Central and South Florida offices, linked via computer and telephone, enjoyed sharing the joy of the season as well as an abundance of delicious homemade foods. Everyone had a great time eating, socializing and playing games.

During the party, service awards were given to Mike Gifford, celebrating ten years with the company in 2008, and Lars Liebkuchler and Andrea Barlaan, who have both been with SSYH for five years. Before presenting the service awards, Reagan Stanley pointed out that over 50% of the SSYH staff has been with the company over five years.

 

Outstanding Spirit Awards went to Tammy Wills and Paul Lopez. All of the employees in the company (with the exception of the four owners) nominate and select the winners. This special award gives the employees an opportunity to honor co-workers who exemplify outstanding spirit using the following criteria:

 

- Exceptional and positive attitude
- Enthusiasm
- Teamwork
- Contribution to the forward momentum of the company
- Best representative of company to clients and employees

  LENDING A HELPING HAND

 

In lieu of an employee gift exchange, SSYH has an annual tradition of helping a worthy cause during the holidays. Historically, the company has participated in "Adopt-a-Family" type activities. This year, with special consideration of the economy, we went in search of a fiscally responsible partner that would allow us to continue our efforts of helping the community, with attention to providing the widest reach to the most children.

 

The Center for Drug Free Living is an Orlando based not-for-profit that is dedicated to empowering youth to make life-changing choices through its substance abuse programs. They also have an entire division related to prevention. By reaching out to at-risk youth in the most dangerous neighborhoods, CFDFL sponsors and funds programs that provide a positive outlet for children and introduce life tools that are not always available to children in their environment or circumstance.

 

In 2008, SSYH employees joined together to bring in donations of school and art supplies, sporting equipment, books, toys and games, clothing and personal hygiene items for children in need. The event was organized by SSYH Dynamics GP Practice Manager Rachel Johnson. Over a dozen boxes of donated items were delivered to CFDFL the week before Christmas. "We are excited that this partnership will allow us to support many families and children, instead of just a few, as we have in the past," said Rachel.

 

CFDFL Director of Prevention Marnie Williams stopped by the Central Florida office on December 19 to personally introduce the prevention programs to SSYH and thank the employees for their generosity. Donations supported ten village houses, five enrichment centers, six counseling centers and seven school-based programs.

  SERVICE ANNIVERSARIES

 

Three employees will reach service milestones with SSYH this quarter. Joe Jacob and Michael Broadmeadow will celebrate their five year anniversaries, having both joined the company on the same day five years ago this February 2nd. Betsy Gentry will celebrate ten years with the company on March 29. Thank you for your continued service to SSYH and our clients!
