Mike Gifford

Mike Gifford
Professional Services Director

Each quarter, SSYH lets you get to know one of our employees a little better. This quarter's featured employee is Mike Gifford, Professional Services Director.

Mike Gifford has more than 15 years of experience in technology, with an emphasis on leveraging IT investments to improve business success. His extensive experience includes programming, information technology project management, and team management. He has been instrumental in the success of many software implementations.

Mike joined Stanley Stuart Yoffee & Hendrix, Inc. in January of 1998 as a Programmer, developing customizations for business software applications. Later, he moved into the role of Programming Manager, before becoming SSYH's Professional Services Director.

He is responsible for managing the professional services team and SSYH's internal information technology department. Mike enjoys working with clients to ensure that they get the most out of their software investments.

Before coming to SSYH, Mike was a Systems Engineer and Developer for EDS in Orlando. His prior experience gave him the skills necessary to handle both internal demands, as well as clients' requirements.

Mike grew up in Florida, and attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering.

Mike currently lives in DeLand, Florida with his wife and two children. In his spare time he enjoys fishing and watching auto racing, and is an avid Florida State Seminoles fan.

  WHAT'S NEW AT SSYH


All of us at SSYH would like to thank everyone who was able to join us for our South Florida Client Appreciation Event! It is always great to get to know each other better in a relaxed, informal setting. One of the highlights of the evening was Joe Hendrix's presentation on the benefits of CustomerSource. For those who are not familiar with CustomerSource, it is the Microsoft Web site for Microsoft Dynamics customers, and access to it is one of the benefits of your annual Microsoft Dynamics enhancement plan. CustomerSource provides unlimited online training, access to the technical support knowledge base, managed discussion groups, and much more. Our next Client Appreciation Event will be held in the early spring of 2008. We will provide more details about this event as the date grows closer.

 

In March of 2008, Convergence, the annual Microsoft Dynamics user group meeting, returns to Orlando! Steve Ballmer has already been slated to deliver the opening keynote at this event. SSYH is very excited about the emergence of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server as an excellent tool to build portals and intranets.   TIPS & TRICKS FROM THE HELPDESK

Do you need help from SSYH?

SSYH has an in-house help desk that is available for help with Microsoft Dynamics software. Support can be obtained by calling (800) 670-0059 and selecting extension 122. You may also email your support questions/issues to our help desk at ssyhsupport@ssyh.com. When emailing, please include any screen shots or error messages that may help solve the issue.


Microsoft Dynamics SL (Solomon)

Payroll Year-End Tips:

  • Complete all payroll runs for the current year.

  • Create a backup of your database and mark as 2006 pre-year-end tax update.

  • Install the 2007 year-end update.

  • Run the W2 Calculation.

  • Review Employee W2 information in Employee W2 History. You can use Initialize Mode to edit the information.

  • Print the W2 forms.

  • Create a backup of your database and mark as 2007 post-year-end file.

  • Run 1099 Preview Report. You can use the Vendor History Report, AP Transaction Report, and the Vendor Trial Balance - All Documents Report to compare 1099 information. Changes can be made in AP Vendor Maintenance 1099 Tab using Initialize Mode.

  • Once you have printed the 1099 for the year, review the 1099 Calendar Year Control. The Change Status Process Option will allow you to close the 1099 year. This will prevent checks from being written for this year. The Purge Oldest Year option will purge the oldest year and roll the years forward. For example, if you have the current 1099 year as 2006, and the next 1099 year as 2007, the system will purge the 1099 information for 2006, make 2007 the current 1099 year, and 2008 the next 1099 year.

Note: Do not purge 2007 information until you have printed and verified the 1099s. Once you close or purge a year, you cannot go back.

Note: You can install the 2008 tax updates at any time. These updates can be obtained from CustomerSource.

Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains)

Payroll Year-End Tips:

  • Complete all pay runs for the current year.

  • Complete all monthly and quarterly payroll period-end procedures.

  • Create a back-up of your database and mark as 2007 pre-year-end tax update.

  • Install the year-end update.

  • Create a year-end file.

  • Create a backup of your database and mark as 2007 post-year-end file.

  • Verify and print W2 and 1099-R statements.

  • Install payroll tax update for 2008.

Note: Do not install the updates until the year-end file for 2007 has been created.
